FAMOUS KAMMA PERSONALITIES IN SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

1) Dr.Yalavarthi Nayudamma
Dr..Y.Nayudamma, a Chemist and a Chemical Engineer by training, had immensely contributed to develop CLRI during initial stages of its establishment. He was greatly responsible for building international image for the institute and for establishing close linkages with the Indian leather industry. He had many National and International Awards/Honours to his credit including the Padmashri in 1971. He became Director General, CSIR, New Delhi and then Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. He also served in many prestigious National and International Committees.

2) Dr.Kota Harinarayana
Dr. Kota Harinarayana, Distinguished Scientist & Programme Director, LCA was born in Berhampur in 1943, graduated from BHU in Mechanical Engineering, and obtained graduation in Aero-Engineering from IISc, Bangalore. He did his PhD at lIT, Mumbai, and holds Bachelors degree in Law. He was appointed as Programme Director, LCA in December 1985 and was concurrently holding the post of Director, ADE till June 1986. During 1995 he was elevated to Distinguished Scientist by DRDO. Dr Harinarayana was President, Aeronautical Society of India; Chairman, Technical Committee of ARDB; Fellow, Aeronautical Society of India and Indian Academy of Engineering. He received distinguished alumnus award from Aerospace Department, IISc, Bangalore in 1993 and from lIT, Mumbai in 1995. He is recipient of the National Aeronautics Prize, FIE Foundation Award-1996. Kota Harinarayana led the LCA (Tejas) development programme for15 years. He is now Vice- Chancellor, University of Hyderabad. He Was awarded Padmashree in 2002.

3) Dr.Koneru. Ramakrishna Rao
Dr.Koneru Ramakrishna Rao, noted psychologists and social scientists ever since, became the Director of the Institute for Parapsychology, Foundation for Research on the Nature of Man, Durham, North Carolina. A student of the AU in the early 1950s, he joined the Philosophy Department. Showing special interest in the study of psychology Ramakrishna Rao went to the US for higher studies. His stay and study at Duke University during 1962-65 was an eventful period. His research papers earned for him recognition in the US universitiesHe was just 32 when he was elected president of the Parapsychological Association, an international association of parapsychologists. By then he had received the Beta Phi Mu Award. A moment of fulfilment for. Koneru Ramakrishna Rao has played a leading role in advancing parapsychology in the United States, India, and around the world—serving as president of both the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology and the U.S.–based Parapsychological Association. He Was awarded Padmashree in 2010.

4) Dr. Patcha Ramachandra Rao
Dr. Patcha Ramachandra Rao (21 March 1942 - 10 January 2010) was a world renowned metallurgist and administrator. He has unique distinction of being the only Vice-Chancellor (2002-05) of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) who was also a student (1963-68) and faculty (1964-92) at that institution. From 1992 to 2002, Dr. Ramachandra Rao was the Director of the National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur. After his tenure as Vice Chancellor of B.H.U., in 2005, Dr. Rao took the reins of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) as its first Vice-Chancellor. He was to serve DIAT until his superannuation in 2007. From 2007 till the end, Prof. Ramachandra Rao was a Raja Ramanna Fellow at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials, in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Ramachandra Rao was born on 21 March 1942 to Late Sri. Pacha S.R. Narayanaswamy and Late Smt. Laxmi Bai at Kavutavaram in the Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. From his mothers side, Dr. Rao is the nephew of Late Shri Narla Venkateswara Rao, a Telugu language writer, journalist and politician from Andhra Pradesh, Late Shri Narla Gowri Shankar Rao, an assistant accountant-general (retired) in the Central Government of India, and Late Shri Narla Tata Rao, a doyen of the power sector in India and a former chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board.

5) Dr. Idpuganti Venkata Subba Rao
Dr. Subba Rao was among one of the most respected agriculturists in the country and this was evident when the Government conferred the prestigious National Award 'Padmashri' in recognition of his valuable contribution for the development of Agriculture in the country in 2002.He was also the recipient of numerous other awards. Dr Subba Rao also had the distinction of serving as the Vice Chancellor of the ANGRAU twice. He Was General President 93rd Indian Science Congress.

6) Dr.Roopkumar Kolli
Dr. Rupa Kumar Kolli, Round 11 START Visiting Scientist Indian Institute for Tropical Meteorology, Pune, India. As a START (global change System for Analysis, Research and Training) Visiting Scientist, Dr. Kolli worked with staff of the Centre for Sustainability and Global Environment (SAGE) in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Kolli's work at SAGE focused on collecting data and information for an integrated regional assessment of the interactions between the changing climate, and ecological and human systems. His research project made important new contributions into the study of the role of land-use and land cover changes in regional climate change.

7) Dr.Ramanujam Varatharaja Perumal
Dr.Ramanujam Varatharaja Perumal is a well known aeronautical scientist and an aerospace engineer of India. He was a director at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He was responsible for the flight integration and launch operations of the first three PSLV flights. From 1996 to 2001, he was Project Director of the Geo-Synchronous Launch Vehicle Programme (GSLV). From May 2001 he has been the Associate Director (Projects), Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram. He was awarded Padma Bhushan award by Government of India in 2002.

8) Myneni Hari Prasad Rao
Dr. Myneni Hari Prasada Rao is a retired Director of the Nuclear Power Board (now known as NPCL) of DAE, Mumbai, India and has served for many years as a member of Southern, Western and Northern Indian Regional electricity boards. He borned in Krishna district, AP. Rao joined the Atomic Energy establishment in early 1957 as a Junior Research Officer (JRO).
1973-87-Director of Nuclear Power Board
1973-84-Specially appointed Director of Madras Atomic Power Project.
1984-87-Exceutive Director responsible for design, procurement, construction of all new power stations, and operation of all 235MW reactors of the Nuclear Power Board.
1987-Superannuated from service.

National Awards: Sanjay Gandhi Award, in 1983 for contribution to Science & Technology in India. "Padma Shree", in 1984 for Individual Contribution to Nuclear Power.

9) Dr Sitaram Rao Valluri
Dr. Valluri was a leading aeronautical consultant in USA, with a promising and prosperous career ahead of him, when he took a conscious decision to give it all up for the sake of his country. As Director, National Aeronautical Laboratory for an incredible 19 years, Dr Valluri contributed his best years to the development of India's premier aeronautical establishment. Building on the strong foundation created by Dr Nilakantan, Dr Valluri transformed NAL into a potent and remarkable force in Indian aeronautics, making it one of the country's best high science high technology laboratories with all-round capability in every aeronautical discipline.
As the first Director-General of Aeronautical Development Agency, Dr Valluri laid the strong foundations required for the successful design and development of India's Light Combat Aircraft. He was awarded 'Padmashree' in 1974.
10) Dr.Tripuraneni sivaji Rao
Dr.T.Sivaji Rao was Director, Centre for Environmental Studies, GITAM College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam. Formerly Principal, College of Engineering, Andhra University, Waltair, P.W.D Engineer at Nagarjuna Sagar dam. As an International Expert he was invited by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1976. He delivered key-note addresses at two international conferences at Khatmandu, Nepal in 1979 and 1997. He is the recipient of Best State Teacher Award for 1986-87 and the Swami Pranavananda .National Award for 1991 of the University Grants Commission on Ecology and Environmental Sciences. He was a member of the A.P.State Pollution Control Board and Chairman of its Technical Committee and was member of the Environmental Appraisal committees of the Union Ministry of Environmental and Forests for Industries and River Valley projects (and during this period had an opportunity to review the Environmental Impact of Tehri Dam as a member of the Bhumbla Committee and as a member of the high-power committee on seismic safety of Tehri dam appointed by the Government of India in April 2001.

11) Dr Paruchuri Gangadhar Rao
Dr. Paruchuri Gangadhar Rao, Deputy Director & Head of Chemical Engineering area at Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai has been appointed the Seventh Director of Regional Research Laboratory (RRL), Jorhat in 2002. RRL Jorhat is the only National Laboratory set-up in the North Eastern Region of India devoted fully for the economic development of N E Region through the application of Science & Technology based on the natural resources available in the region. It has a staff strength of over 488 people with approximately 175 scientific and technical professionals. Dr P G Rao is a Chemical Engineer of great distinction. He obtained his B Tech in Chemical Engineering from REC(NIT), Warangal in 1974 with distinction and M Tech in Chemical Plant Design from IIT, Madras in 1976. Dr Rao obtained his Ph D from IIT, Madras in 1995 for his thesis in the area of Polymer Engineering. Dr Rao joined RRL, J orhat initially in 1976 as Scientific Assistant. Through focussed research and sustained hard work, he rose to the level of Scientist EI in 1986. He was involved in the chemical process development of agrochemicals like Phosphamidon, Quinolphos and Chlorofenvinphos which have earned FICCI award to RRL in 1982.

12) Dr.Pavuluri Subba Rao
Dr. Subba Rao Pavuluri, Managing Director of Ananth Technologies Ltd. has received 'Bhaskara Award' for the year 1999 from The Indian Society Remote Sensing in recognition of his significant contribution towards development of a vibrant business enterprise in Remote Sensing and GIS applications in the country. He received National award for ‘Entrepreneurship of Onboard Systems’, Award for ‘Excellence in Electronics R & D and for the outstanding performance for the year 2001-02’ by ministry of communication & Information Technology, New Delhi, Award for "Excellence in Consultancy Services", 1997 by Consultancy Development Centre of Department of Industrial Development, Government of India.

13) Dr.Suryadevara Mahendra Dev
Dr. Suryadevara Mahendra Dev is an economist who has written extensively on agricultural development, poverty and public policy, food security, employment guarantee schemes, social security, farm and non-farm employment. He did his Ph.D from the Delhi School of Economics and his Post-doctoral research at the Economic Growth Centre, Yale University and was faculty member at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai for 11years. He has been a consultant to many international organizations like the UNDP, World Bank, International Food Policy Research Institute, ESCAP and has also worked as a member in committees set up by the Government of India. Prof. S. Mahendra Dev is currently Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices. He was Director, Centre for Economic and Social Studies,Hyderabad for 9 years during 1999 to 2008.
